Kettering based Stanair Industrial Doors Limited has received more national recognition for the quality of its staff training schemes - and among those joining in the plaudits this time was TV personality and comedian Rory Bremner and Labour Education Secretary Charles Clarke.

Just weeks after beating off fierce competition to win a National Training Award, the company - based at the Telford Way Industrial Estate, but with branches in Rugby, Peterborough and Milton Keynes - has been given an even higher honour: the prestigious Training Excellence Award, given only to the select few in the United Kingdom who have proved they have reached the highest standards.

And Education Secretary Charles Clarke MP was among those who paid tribute to Stanair when they collected their award from Rory Bremner at London's Guildhall.

"They have all demonstrated just how quality education and training can make the difference, giving opportunities for many individuals," said Mr Clarke. "If the UK is to enjoy a strong economy and prosperity for all, then theirs is the example everyone should aim to follow - developing skills means investing in all our futures."

Linda Ammon, the Chief Executive of UK Skills, added her congratulations: "It's a remarkable achievement, because only the select few companies are given such an honour.

"We have received entries from a wide range of organisations this year, from outstanding individuals to some of the UK's largest companies. This year's entries have demonstrated that training is crucial to the economic success of the country," she added.

"Despite economic conditions British businesses are still taking training very seriously, businesses and individuals recognise that skills are crucial to their future and the nation."

Michael Markham, the managing director of Stanair Industrial Doors, described the latest award as "an astonishing end to a remarkable year".

"I've become lost for words almost, everybody at Stanair is overwhelmed at the recognition we have achieved," he said. "To win a National Training Award was one thing, but to go to London and be told your standards have reached a United Kingdom level of excellence is just fantastic.

"As you can imagine, everyone at Stanair is overjoyed, and I have to pay the highest tribute to everyone at the company who has been involved in our staff training schemes, and who has helped us to reached the standards of recognition that we have done."

The National Training Awards is Government sponsored and organised by the Department of Education & Skills. It attracts entries from individuals, partnerships, charities and major corporations, reflecting the dynamic range and scope of training that is taking place across the whole country.

Stanair impressed judges with the implementation of a new all-inclusive training structure to help all their members of staff. They were sent on relevant training courses to boost their skills and help their career development.

New recruits to the company - that currently employs over 60 people - underwent intensive and highly impressive training appropriate to their new jobs.
