BNI Collingtree member Michael Markham has raised over £2,000 for charity after a fabulous performance at the London Marathon. Indeed, such was the impression Michael made, he's now been invited to run the New York Marathon!
Michael, managing director of Stanair Industrial Doors Ltd, took part in the London event just months after being given the all clear by doctors to resume his great passion of road running. He'd been told he might never again do so after a serious car accident nine years ago.
Michael clocked a time of 3-hours, 29 minutes and 50 seconds, and was the 4,834th finisher of the 37,000 starters!
"It was a fabulous day, the crowds were wonderful and really encouraging, I was really proud of the time I achieved - it was well within my personal target.
"But more importantly, I've raised a lot of money for the Workbridge Centre in Northampton, a charity very dear to my heart, and for that I thank all the wonderful members of BNI Collingtree Chapter who gave me such great support, along with the many other sponsors.
"And yes - it's true, I have been invited to run in New York. I met someone from the United States after the race who made the invitation, and I'm seriously thinking about giving it a go - and hopefully raising more money
for charity in doing so."
Michael featured before and after the race on BBC Radio Northampton, and the local media have also followed his story. Peter Jones, of PR and media company Red Alert Media said: "We're all very proud of Michael, it's a
fantastic achievement." |
